Building Background
Chateau Royale is something quite special.
Designed in the early eighties by the Architect Noel Robinson the building has a timeless design. It is also an intelligent design. All apartments are located on the north elevation of the building taking full advantage of the spectacular ocean, river and hinterland views. Service areas are located to the rear and on the south elevation of the building. The architect has created a building which became a landmark in the local area.
Not only does the design maximise the advantage to all apartments in terms of the magnificent views but also provides the added bonus of being able to watch both sunrises and sunsets from all apartments. Function rather than developer's profits motivated the design. More units could have been incorporated into the building footprint, however the architect resisted this approach and has designed liveable apartments ranging in size from 120 m2 for the two bedroom apartments to 158 m2 for the three bedroom apartments. These are quite possibly the largest holiday apartments on the Sunshine Coast.
It is not possible to continue to rely upon the initial design success of the building to maintain its icon status into the future. Between October 2009 and mid 2010 the body corporate has initiated a major building renovation. This work includes replacing balcony doors incorporating safety glass to meet current safety standards in addition to all windows. The glazing has been selected with a green tint to reduce both the uv transmission and solar gain through windows.
Minor façade repairs are being completed and the building repainted in a contemporary Berkshire white colour which coupled with the green tint to the glass, will provide a visual uplift to the building's appearance. Other minor works are being undertaken to compliment the renovation works such as new signage, a re-tile to the swimming pool area and replacement of all front doors to apartments.
